The Cuicacalli Guitar Trio (a Nahuatl word which means ‘house of singing’) was formed by Miguel Vences, Diego Arias and Eduardo Rodríguez. They were sponsored by the National Fund for Culture and Arts (FONCA) and recorded their first CD called “Kuikayotl Ixachitlan – Música de América” (Music of America). They commissioned new music to Mexican composers specifically for this project. With this music material they did two important Concert Tours in Europe (Germany, Switzerland, France) and South America (Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia).
The Cuicacalli Guitar Trio obtained several prizes in the most important chamber music competitions in Mexico. This are the most significant:
- 1st. prize in the 6th. National Chamber Music Competition of the Cultural Centre ‘Ollin Yoliztli’.
- 1st. prize in the 3rd. International Chamber Music Competition for Guitar in Taxco, Guerrero.
- 1st. prize in the 9th. National Chamber Music Competition of the Superior Music School of the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA).
